The Herbert family has been at Powis since 1587
Powis Estates has been in the custodianship of the Herbert family and subsequent Earls of Powis for nearly 450 years. In 1587 Sir Edward Herbert purchased the Barony of Powis from a distant relative. Since then, the Herbert family have steered the Estates through many changes and tests of time.
Today, Powis Estates is responsible for the stewardship and management of land in Montgomeryshire and South Shropshire. This includes the two main Estates, the Powis Castle Estate located near Welshpool and the Lymore Estate which is located in the Vale of Montgomery.
